ENT camp for Primary & Secondary school children

An ENT screening and free medical treatment camp was organized at Kailash Cancer Hospital & Research Centre Muni Seva ashram., Goraj on Friday& Saturday , 22nd & 23rd and 29th & 30th between 9 a.m. to 5 pm., sponsored by Kalpana & Jaydev Desai from the USA.
ENT specialist, Dr. Shehnaz Kantharia (MB.B.S. M. S.) carried out ENT checkups for all the students.
A total of 245 students of class 1-8 of Baxi Punch Sharda Mandir Primary School were checked. about 75% of the children stay at the hostel attached school and the rest are day scholars from the neighbouring villages.
They interacted with the doctor and the doctor explained the treatment or medical procedure that they have to follow for their child. The class teacher of each class was present to write the medical history so that it can be follow up.
A total of 9 teacher-(Mr. Vinodbhai, Mr. Jayantibhai, Mr. Jethabhai,Mr. Vijaybhai , Mr. Shaileshbhai, Mr. Dhirajbhai , Mrs. Radhaben, Mrs. Veenaben, Mrs. Maniben ) 3 administrative staff and 10 Staff Nurses were present to organise the camp. Mr. Vikram Patel Chairperson, Mrs. Swati Pandya , Administrator of the Hospital and other volunteer of Ashram Supervised the camp.

She prescribed medicines for about 140 students in the form of tablets, ear drops and cough syrups. 7 children with Chronic Tonsillitis were advised to undergo Tonsillectomy. Their parents have been asked to meet Dr Kantharia.4 children with Chronic Supportive Otitis Media were identified and further management advised. One child with Vocal cord Nodules was advised Microlaryngoscopy.
Free of cost medicine given to all needy students
Dr. Shehnaz has also extended her support at for the students if they have to visit her for further investigation or operation.
The students arrived at the Muni Seva Ashram before time and were engaged in different activities according to their ages like colouring, drawing and quizzes to keep them busy.
Brochures on how to keep the ears, nose and throat healthy and what re the early signs and symptoms of different ENT diseases and disorders were distributed to the students and their parents by Social worker.
The doctor checked each student with a lot of love and care. She spent quality time with each child and patiently answered all the questions asked by the students, parents and staff.
The students were given bananas and biscuits as refreshments and lunch also. Dr. Shehnaz counseled patient and their hostel rector/teacher/ parent to ascertain that the treatment is understood.
Muni Seva Ashram is deeply grateful to Kalpana and Jaydev Desai and their friends for their support for health camps for the Primary & Secondary children, many of whom would never have had a proper diagnosis of their problem were in not for these free camps.
Special gratitude is also extended to the specialist Dr.Mrs. Kantharia who gave her skills free of change for the benefit of these children.
